Murchison to Kaiteriteri 20th November, 2020

We left Murchison at 8.00am we were ready to leave earlier but the area was full of fog so thought we wouldn’t see anything. Apparently that’s quite common in this area  early morning. As soon as we left camp ‘Murchison Motorhome Holiday Park’ the fog had lifted but still a little between the hills. The scenery continued to be spectacular, driving through the hills and valley along the banks of the many rivers that we have passed. Photos to follow : On the road again driving through the countryside..

Above and below you can see the fog still hanging around the hills.

Through this area they grow hops.

We stopped beside this river for a coffee break in the van.

Another fallen down building love these shots.

Finished our drive through the country.

Now driving through Motueka not far to Kaiteriteri
                                     Now.

As it was only about 12.30pm and couldn’t check into camp until 2.00pm we decided to head west further along the coast to have an explore to fill in time. A couple of places I wanted to see. first of all we went to the bay where you can see the Split Apple Rock. To get to the above beach it was about a 15min walk going steeply down to sea level through a bush walk along boardwalks and many steps. OK getting down but at the time had to wonder about the climb back up again. It wasn’t too bad and certainly filled in time. A lovely small golden sand bay, like all the sand around here is quite different really orange gold sand like at Kaiteriteri beach were we are having two nights. In the photo just off the point you can see just see some rocks as below. Now you know
                       where the name came from.

After climbing back up the hill from the beach we drove further along the coast to another sandy bay called Marahau. Stopped by the beach and made a sandwich for a belated lunch.

Along the road coming back we passed this genuine original
‘ Kiwi Bach.’

We have now arrived back at Kaiteriteri beach at the camping ground. It’s now just after 2.00pm so can now have a nice relaxing afternoon on the warm sunny day. We got a front row site just across from the beach. This is taken from inside of the van, back doors wide open.

This is our site.

Taken on the beach just in front of our site where we will be for two nights. Can’t complain about that glorious spot with that golden orange sand.

Dinners nearly ready. The van had this neat pull out BBQ at the back great idea. The beach across the road from us.

That’s it for the day most enjoyable. Will go out for the day tomorrow and explore further west. Watch this space.
